Making Changes In Your Career-The Big Decision

Recommend this page to Google

When it comes to making your "big" career decision, it's important that you take into consideration the big picture-all of the various parts of your life. Not only do you need to have worked out what your priorities are, you also need to look at things such as finances, family responsibilities, education, experience, where you are at personally in your life right now, and the list goes on.

For example, if spending time with your family is a priority, you probably won't want a job that requires extensive travel or too much overtime. Maybe you just want to work part time. But if you are single or very career driven, you may want to look at a position that can provide for upward mobility when you put in the time and hard work
required.

Another important aspect to take into consideration is where you are at right now in your life. Although it is never too late to make changes in your life or career, it is important to be realistic about various aspects of your present life. One example is your age. Like it or not, your age can be somewhat of a limiting factor when it comes to your career options. Yes, it's unfair, but we know we don't live in a perfect world.

When it comes to making your decision, you will need to weigh the pros and cons of all your options. If you have decided that it's just your job you are unhappy with and not the career field you are in, then you will need to explore the pros and cons of staying at your current job or looking for employment elsewhere.

If you do decide that it is your career field you are unhappy with and you need to pursue an entirely different career, then make sure to do all the required preparatory work needed so that you will be successful once you enter the career field of your choice. This is where a very detailed plan comes in handy. Make sure to give yourself enough time and avoid rushing into anything. Plan out your steps and don't be afraid to make any needed adjustments along the way.

The Big Daddy of all options available to you is self-employment. Whether you continue in the career you are currently in or switch to a new career field, self-employment can be highly rewarding. However, it does come with its own challenges.

If you have never been self employed, then you will need to make sure you spend some time reading up on what it takes to be your own boss and run your own business. It's important to learn all you can. It's one thing to believe in yourself, but it's another thing to dive into something unprepared. To get you started on adding to your knowledge base about self-employment, make sure to read and digest the chapter in this book on the topic.

Once you have gathered all the information you need and have explored each and every option available to you, making your decision should come much easier to you. If you still find that you are unsure, sit down and write out what it is that you are unsure about. Ask yourself, "What do I really want out of life?" Review your information, explore your options, and most of all, listen to your heart. Once you find the answers you need and make your big decision, commit to it and start working on your plan.
